Would you choose this, or that?

I was supposed to do another 10 min arm workout, but I ran<(pun intended;)) out of time. The hubs and I had a date at the bank to get our wills signed. Yes, very exciting stuff. I always like to do a circuit when I know I don’t have much time because I can get more done in the allotted amount of time.

Food Talk

I’ve followed the 80%/20% rule for most of my life. I try and eat healthy 80% of the time and then 20% of the time I can eat whatever I want. This guideline works for me because I like my sweets and I hate saying I ‘cant’ eat one thing or another. Most of the time I like choosing the healthier option because it makes me feel good. I also like having a dessert, or Easter candy, or sugary cereal.

For example, yesterday as I thought about what to eat for lunch I remembered I had a SmartOne in the freezer. I don’t usually buy these types of meals, but they’re always nice to have on hand when you’re in a hurry. I also love Progresso 100 calorie soups(Minestrone is my fav). I cooked up the pasta primivera with a side of carrots and hummus, and water.

And we all know how J feels about sweets. . .

The answer to my question, would I choose this or that is, I would choose both! I say as long as you eat healthy most of the time, it’s okay to eat what you want(in moderation).

What would you choose? do you say you ‘can’t’ have certain foods?

My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own.   1. I have been thinking a lot about this healthy eating topic lately because I feel like when I eat poorly, my performance the next day takes a hit. I like your 80/20 rule. I guess if you break it down (because I need tangible numbers) that comes to 4 meals a week out of 21 that would be on the “whatever you want” end of the spectrum. I think that’s pretty doable!

    The last yummy thing I ate was dark chocolate cookies last night after my healthy dinner… yummm 🙂

    J is so stinking cute!! I usually don’t follow any eating rules, aside from the mandatory gluten-free thing. I think the main thing I try to avoid is sugary drinks. I don’t drink coffee with a ton of sugar and cream, and if I drink tea I don’t add anything to it. I also rarely drink soda. I think that avoiding these drinks with a ton of calories goes a long way towards being healthy.

  5. I try not to deny myself of foods that I want. But I think with all the knowledge out there about food now, I tend to shy away from processed white grains and I don’t miss them. Also, I don’t drink soda. It’s not because I “can’t” have it, it’s because I just choose not to because of what I know about it. That being said, if I’m a party and someone hand’s me a drink with some soda in it, I definitely won’t make a big deal out of it.

    I do like circuits, but I definitely don’t do them often enough! I agree about the moderation rule…depriving myself of things never works well in the long run.
    ps- I usually get as just excited as J does about a cookie 😉

  7. I don’t usually do a whole lot of circuit workouts because I like to be able to zone out mentally. But they are definitely good for when you are in a time crunch, like you said!

    I really don’t like to deny myself of any food, so I try to do the 80/20 rule too, I’m too much of a chocolate addict to give sweets up entirely!

  9. I just bought a bunch of Smart Ones because they were on sale at Target (plus, you got a free one when you bought 6).
    When I’m eating I feel like I just choose. I try not to think about things in an emotional way. If I decide I want it, I eat it. Usually, I feel heavy/bloated/way-too-full afterwards, but that’s life. Most of the time I just DECIDE that I don’t want to eat it. Then I walk away from that internal conversation.
