Tulips, Family, and Food


Monday- 3 recovery miles + Arm and core workout + stretching

I took it slow today and just wanted to get warmed up. I love stretching and foam rolling after my first workout after a hard race.


In the race packet I received 2 free passes to the Tulip Festival(being held at the same location as the race) and my friend gave me her passes too. My mom, Josh, J and I headed over straight from the race. I changed into dry clothes, snagged some bagels, chips, oranges, and cookies and we were off!



It was so beautiful! I loved having my mom at the race and it was fun to walk through the tulips with her. There were some fun activities for J too.

I was still hungry after scarfing all the post race food, so we took my mom to one of our favorite sub places called Firehouse Subs.

I really just wanted that pickle spear! Anyone else crave salt after running??

It was such a fun day. Family is where it’s at=) I hope I can convince my dad to come to one of my races(hint hint, dad)

What do you crave after you run? Sweet, salt, nothing?

Do you think walking around after a long run aids in your recovery? I totally think its helps!

What did you have for breakfast today? I’ve been on a banana pancake kick.

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

  1. The tulip festival looks beautiful! My college roommate was from Holland, Michigan and she said they have a huge one every spring there too. I absolutely think walking around helps recovery. I crave whatever food I can get into my system fastest πŸ™‚

  2. Walking around after running definitely helps me catch my breath and recover. And breakfast today will be steel cut oats because they’re old faithful and I can prep them ahead of time. I’d love one of your pancakes though πŸ˜‰

    I’m eating a banana and hard boiled egg for breakfast..meh. And I’m actually never hungry after races but I’ve never done more than a 5K- so I prob would be if I did a longer race.

    I love Tulips! I bet the festival was beautiful! I had a large bowl of Honey Nut Chex for breakfast today!

    Oh girl that foam rolling business is the best! Love it! I am ALL about salt after a long run too! Stay away sweets, make room for my chips and salsa!!! I concur about the walking thing for sure, in any long run. Stopping makes me 1 million times sorer the next day. πŸ™‚

  6. I always want salt…every day of my life haha so I guess after a run isn’t any different! Pickles are my absolute favorite food. I could live on them, although I’m sure I’d probably get really dehydrated. I definitely think walking around helps because you don’t get so cramped up. We did 8 hours of walking around the Magic Kingdom after the Princess Half, but I think that it helped stretch me out a little. I was still sore the next day, though! I had a Greek yogurt parfait topped with mango, strawberries, and apple-cinnamon granola!

  9. What a fun day! The tulips around my office are so beautiful.

    I really do believe that walking after any intense cardio session helps a lot! Gotta cool down those legs.

    mmmm- pickles are my favorite. I totally crave salt after races (or any workout)…anything sweet never sounds good!

    The fact that you ended your day with a firehouse sub makes your day even better! Please tell me that at least one of you mixed your soda w/ the awesome machines they have? Ha Ha!
