Big Decisions, and I need your help

Workout

Friday- 3.4 miles outside

I met up with my early morning running group. There were 3 of us today and the girls rocked it. I love when people get excited about running like I do.

I also tried my new Brook Pure Flow 2’s for our short run. I’m not ready to do a full review since I only ran 3 miles. I can tell they’re definitely different than my Nike’s so we’ll see=)

Big Decisions

Speaking of new running shoes that are not Nike’s. This brings me to a big decision to make. Ever since I started getting into running and racing I’ve had the Nike + sport band. I love it. It’s simple, tells me my pace, mile, time, calories burned, and time elapsed.

But can only tell you one of those things at a time

In order to use it, you have to have a Nike shoe that has a spot to insert the Nike + chip.Β  If I keep the sport band, the other option is ordering a little pouch to attach to a non Nike shoe for $10.

Or. . .

My other options are ordering a Garmin or Nike Sportswatch. That way I could wear whatever shoe I wanted and still be able to track my miles, pace, time, etc for about $150-$200. I’m not looking to buy right away, I want to do some research and hear what you have to say.

So, I need your help. If you wear a running watch, what kind do you wear? What do you like or dislike about it?

Anyone run with a Nike Sport band and just use a pouch for a non Nike shoe?

Let me know, what you think, thanks!

About Sugar Plum Runner

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

Cool kicks you’ve got there! I have wanted to try those but I pronate when I run so I have to have major support. I LOVE my Garmin. It is the older one, but it is great. It is a expensive though and I know a lot of people who are just as happy with the Strava app or the Nike running app because it talks to you- but I guess that’s only if you run with your phone. I love the garmin for a race especially so I can just look at my wrist and not pull out my phone. Hope you have a great girls weekend!!

I love my running watch. I have a Garmin 405cx. I had heard some bad reviews for the 405 because of the bezel. There was an easy fix for that, lock the bezel when you go on your run. I found it new for super cheap on eBay. It was worth the risk to me to buy on ebay and it turned out to be a great thing. I love having the watch instead of having to carry anything else with me like a phone to track my mileage, pace etc.

  3. Awesome! Thanks for asking that question because I was going to do a post like this next week! I’m looking for a running watch and I know a lot of people love their Garmins, so I’m curious to see the responses πŸ˜€

  4. I just use the free Nike + Running app on my iPhone usually but I think for my birthday I’m going to ask for a Garmin 10 :-). I like the app because it keeps track of everything you need to keep track of.. time, distance, laps, etc. The only con is that it requires you to use the bulky iPhone armband and uses a lot of battery. But it’s a good, cheap option!

I used to use the Nike pouch before my garmin. I liked the pouch but didn’t like having to use my iPhone on all of my runs (I don’t have the bad). I really like my Garmin 410. There’s lots of bells and whistles that I don’t use though so I probably could’ve got the 110 and been more than satisfied.

  7. I used to use the Nike+ running app, but it didn’t track my stats accurately so last year I moved on to the Gamin Forerunner 410 – I LOVE it, and it’s definitely worth the mulaa… if you’re interested, there’s a recap on my blog! Good luck with the decision πŸ™‚

  8. I’m in no position to tell you what to do, so I’ll tell you this instead; those shoes are HOT!!
