An Early Workout + Tangent Tuesday

Tuesday- 5 miles, 9:33 pace outside with Heather + arm workout

In order for Heather and I to run together yesterday morning we needed to be back by 6:10am! I wasn’t sure I’d wake up, because the last time my alarm was set for 5am was my first half marathon more than a year ago! Ever since that half I vowed to never sign up for a race with that early of a start, ha! I feel as cool as Chelsea with all her early workouts=)

But you know what? It was really nice. I didn’t even have to hit snooze, I was excited to run. And it didn’t hurt that we got to see the sunrise and have the rest of the day to do whatever.

I even had time to come home, do a great arm workout, shower, and then sneak back to bed before J woke up. I could get used to this. . .

Tangent Tuesday

Just in case I don’t tell you enough about my day, here’s what’s been going on lately.

This week I’m trying to eat more of a substantial lunch rather than just snacking. Monday I had my favorite soup, minestrone, yum! Although my picture is rather dull and somewhat unappetizing, oops.

J is in the stage I’m going to call, “disaster zone” because when he hits a room it ends up looking like this. He keeps me busy. . .

J also had an accident in his swim diaper in his car seat. *Note to parents: swim diapers are not leak proof(they are just meant to catch other things…) I’m sure you all knew that but I did not realize this. *Another note to parents: car seats are a pain to clean. But I finally figured out how to take it apart. I was so excited I sent the hubs a pic declaring it was clean!

photo(494)Last tangent, I’m loving being an aunt. All the baby snuggles I get are the best. Nothing beats a sleeping baby on your chest=)

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

  1. I do not get up a minute earlier than I have to for work, in fact I actually get up about 10 minutes late. The biggest thing on my mind this week has been the cookout I’m having at my house for my mom’s birthday this weekend! It will be the first time I’m having my family over for dinner — I’m kind of nervous!!

    I love working out early in the morning, but I have to leave for work by 6:30, so that’s just too early 😦 I don’t quite feel safe running in the dark alone at 4:30 haha

    What an awesome way to start the day! ❤ So jealous of everyone who can do that! Awesome you didn't hit snooze, um, that's not my story, ever. Oh my, that room is surely a disaster! It just means he's having fun, right?! 🙂 Yikes about that car seat! Supermom powers for getting it all taken care of!
    This week, my beach vacation has consumed my mind! Leaving tomorrow and not looking back! 🙂 Woooo!

  5. I’m usually up at 6 and running by 6:30 because it gets hot here in FL and I need to be out before the sun is above the horizon or else I will die!

    Yea cleaning a car seat is not easy or fun!!! And Levi is also going through a stage where he likes to throw all of his stuff around his room!

  7. haha thanks for the shoutout! What a beautiful sunrise too!! That’s the best feeling when you are just up and ready to go run. I am learning a lot of mommy tips from you too for when I have a little one 🙂

  8. I can’t get up early to do anything except drink coffee! Great job on the run and workout!! And I’m a new Auntie and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE it too 🙂

  9. On those random days I wake up without snoozing, I feel like a million bucks! They happen once a year maybe! Haha 🙂

  10. I’m crazy high maintenance and I like to have a really really long time to get ready in the morning, so when I do an AM workout it has to be EARLY, and I have to be done by 6. Which means that I usually only do that 1-2 times a week, MAX. I really just love having my run in the evening because it lets me shake the day off. There are SO many times when I wish I had a running buddy though, I really have no one, all of my friends HATE running 😦

    I have been disappointingly busy (and I think it’s going to continue) so far this summer (spring, rather). I need to schedule a nice morning or evening run to enjoy the temperature, sights and smells. Having a running buddy would be so nice!
