4th of July Recap

Thursday- 1 mile

Friday- 4 miles + abs/arm workout

Saturday- 3 miles

This week has been super chill on the running scale. I wanted to just run whatever I felt and whatever I had time for. It felt good to take the pressure off and just run.

4th of July

We had such a wonderful 4th this year. I seriously love this holiday so much. My grandpa is a Marine, my brother is in the National Guard, my other brother worked in construction for the Army, and my FIL is also in the National Guard. I love having a holiday that celebrates our freedoms and those that served/serve our country.

The day started off early, and we all woke up late so I only had time for a 1 mile run. We met at my in laws for a fun parade where we got cotton candy, snow cones, and of course all the free candy that was thrown at us from the floats. J loved all the yummy treats and watching the fun ‘floats’.

My MIL had a delicious breakfast for us that we really enjoyed.  We hung out after playing outside, eating popsicles, and seeing the kittens their barn cat just had.

That night I had my in laws over for a BBQ. It was my first time making kabobs, they turned out good(what a relief). Forgot to take a pic of dinner, but dessert was my favorite, fruit pizzas!

On to the fireworks! There was a free firework show right by our house. We met up with family, did sparklers and stayed up way past J’s bedtime. He was a trooper and loved all the fireworks.

It was such a great day. We can’t wait for next year!

Were you afraid of fireworks as a child?

How is your long weekend?

About Sugar Plum Runner

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

  1. I’m still a wuss wish fireworks! I’m not a huge fan of loud noises in general, so fireworks used to not be one of my favorite things. I tolerate them now ;).

Looks like you had a wonderful 4th! Those mini fruit pizzas look to die for!

  2. I love Fourth of July too! It is wonderful that so many of your family members have served- thank them for me! I don’t think I was afraid of fireworks as a kid but my brother definitely was- poor thing. Glad to hear Jackson loved them!

  3. Those little mini fruit pizzas look delicious!!! Yum :).

  4. I love kabobs! I’m glad yours turned out well! When I made mine last weekend, I didn’t realize that I had to soak the skewers in water…so the exposed skewers kinda burned..oops! So glad to hear that J loved the fireworks! My weekend was amazing, but I have a concussion, so that hasn’t been too fun!

  5. Fruit pizza looks amazing! I am not a fan of fireworks at all…the loud noises scare me. I’m such a wuss. Thanks to all of your family members that serve our country!!!
