Workout

Monday- 5 miles on treadmill with 1% incline + Tone it up leg workout

I had a lot of catching up yesterday and I almost put off my run. Lately, I’ve been ‘too busy’ to get in a decent workout and yesterday I decided that my run would come first. I just ran until I wanted to stop, and then did a short leg workout from Tone it up found here.

I really really needed that run. I love the time running gives me with my thoughts. I have time to just think and sort through all of life’s decisions. It wasn’t a super long run but it was just what I needed.

Before my run I took the time to make a protein fruit smoothie and saved it in the fridge for after. It was a nice bonus.

Frozen blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries

Half a scoop of chocolate Slim Fast powder

one single package of strawberry greek yogurt(for extra protein and creaminess)

Later on, we had dinner and family night. Since our new family theme talked about removing our fear with faith I wanted to do a family night on faith. It was really fun to try and explain to J what that meant. I let him plant a seed and we’ll get to watch it grow(because faith is like a seed, if you plant it, then you have faith that it will grow).

Of course we had some cookies for dessert.

All in all, yesterday was a great start to a new week=)

Do you drink smoothies even in the winter?

When you train for a spring marathon and you live somewhere cold, do you do your long runs on the treadmill?

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

  2. yes to smoothies in the winter, although not nearly as often as the warmer months. I did a treadmill long run last saturday but I prefer the outdoors for my long runs. Although it does get cold where I live it’s usually not so unbearable that I can’t run outdoors.

    I love having a treat to look forward to after a nice run, however I could not have smoothie, just too cold! 🙂 I have been doing my long runs on the treadmill because it is just so cold and awful and they don’t really clean the streets/sidewalks where I live very well. I freak out that I would get hurt during a run!

    I can’t bring myself to drink smoothies in the cold but I’m all about ice cream in the cold. Go figure!

  7. I need a blender so bad! I want to make more smoothies, especially so I can get in more fruits and veggies. Plus to have something delicious to drink on the way to work!

  8. I’m a treadmiller in the winter, too, at least on weekdays because it’s so dark before and after work. I did a 20-miler on the treadmill last year because it was icy and blizzarding and I was terrified of falling, getting injured , and having to miss Boston. It was rough, but I just watched movies and pushed through.

  9. I REALLY need to add a recipe page to my blog, too. It is a work in progress ;).

  10. I’m signed up for an end of April half. So I should write my training schedule out soon so I know when to officially start getting miles in. I typically do all my miles outside. In Minnesota in April you don’t know what the weather will bring, so its best to always run outside during training so you can know what will work best for you. Other people do plenty of treadmill miles. I need out and back runs so that If I need to do 8 miles, I run out 4 miles and the only way to get home is to do those 4 miles back!

  12. I was really craving a smoothie this morning after my run! No time to make one though…nice job on the run and I love the TIU girls! I like their new show in Bravo too.

  13. I did all my running outside when I was in Chicago… can’t believe I did it, but hopefully it’ll make me stronger! I’ll drink smoothies now that I ‘m back in FL, but in Chicago, I only wanted HOT breakfast.

  14. I think planting that seed is a great way to teach J about faith!…yes in the winter months ALL my runs (including the long ones) are done on the TM

    You better believe I run on a treadmill! I try to get outside when I can, but I am really not a fan of running in the cold. I’ve been treadmilling it since the end of last week. I don’t mind it though. 🙂

    I LOVE smoothies and make them all the time! My daughter loves them too!
