Get your tempo on

Workout

Tuesday- 3.5 miles on treadmill (tempo run)

Thank you so much for all your suggestions yesterday! I haven’t signed up for a race, but I think it would be smart to change up my workout from running to a few other exercises. I don’t have a gym membership, but a few suggested changing it up would help, and I think you’re right!

Another way for me to get my running motivation back is running fast. I always get stuck just running a comfortable pace but yesterday, I did a little tempo work and it felt so great!

It looked like this:

.5 mile warmup

.5 mile @ 8:20 pace

.5 mile @ 10 pace

repeat 3 times

.5  mile cool down

I don’t know what it is, but when I do a really hard workout and push myself I feel so alive. I know how cheesy that sounds, but pushing my body to do something I didn’t think it could and then accomplishing it is a wonderful feeling.

And just like that, I have that craving to run again because I want to push myself. I’m grateful for this body of mine.

20140204-162726.jpgI got my arm workout in by shoveling my driveway, again.

20140204-162746.jpgLater, I took J to his friend Alex’s house. They had fun watching the snow fall while we chatted and I held Alex’s new baby brother.

20140204-162804.jpgAnd on a funny/frustrating note, I did a large load of darks yesterday and when I went to pull it out of the washer all of the clothes were covered in little tiny pieces of paper. A stack of business cards had gone through the wash=( I had to shake every item of clothing, even socks before I put them in the dryer haha It was ridiculous.

20140204-162734.jpganything funny happened to you lately?

what makes you fall in love with running over and over again?

About Sugar Plum Runner

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

  1. Awesome workout! I love the feeling of accomplishment after successfully completing a speed workout. Outdoor runs on beautiful mornings where I can really enjoy nature and everything around me make me fall in love with running all over again.

  2. I love beating my running time even if it’s only by a minute! We have a group of girls that get together at the church and run sprints and we also do bootcamp stuff. We meet twice a week and it has been great to break up running, plus it gets the kids out!

Great job on your workout and I’m glad you love running again! I just absolutely love the sense of accomplishment I feel after I’m finished. Knowing that I pushed myself really hard – whether it’s a hill workout, speed workout, or long run – always makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. And the endorphins kicking in doesn’t hurt, either. Running literally makes me smile!

glad you got your running mojo back, I usually feel really happy about running after accomplishing a tough speed workout or a really long run. Like you said, it makes me want to push myself even more to improve.

  5. I seem to fall in love with running again after taking a few days break to do other workouts, typically strength and HIIT workouts. After a few days of that, I am ready to lace up my running shoes!

Speed!! I love when I get in a good speed session, it makes me realize how much I love running and how much I love that feeling of pushing myself!
I’m sorry about the business cards!!

  7. The way that running brings me back down to reality and maintains my sanity. Love it. So I transferred my site to Blue Host yesterday and when I got on at night after being gone all day, it only had posts on there since November! I was freaking out. Then I realized I paid to have them transfer my site back in November and I was just now finishing the process. So I had to go export the rest of the site and import it to the new one. Momentary panic! Thank goodness for tech support!

  8. Nice job on your tempo run!

  9. Nice run & way to get your groove back! A good, hard run always makes me feel so good, too.

  10. Lol oh no! I hate when that happens to laundry. Someone left a bunch of tissues in their pocket once. That was fun…

  11. I do tempo runs (or intervals) a couple times a week. I do 2 minutes at a 12:00 pace and then 1 at 8:20. I’m not a very fast runner, so I find this pretty challenging and usually do it for 3-4 miles. For my longer runs, I try to do .8 miles at a 12:00 mile and then .2 at a 10:00 mile to train for my upcoming half marathon.
