Some More DIY pictures and hitting goals

Monday- 5 miles on treadmill @ 9:24 avg pace

I did a ‘progression run’ where I sped up by .2mph every mile. I put progression run in quotes because I basically do a progression run every time I run on the treadmill to keep me from getting bored ha

Then, my lil sis Bree came over with her baby boy and busted out 5 miles on the treadmill too!!! She’s never ran 5 miles before and she rocked it. So proud of her=)

The rest of the day was spent going to Home Depot(by now they know me by name) to get some more DIY supplies. I don’t even know who I am, but I’m all about do it myself with this new house. Let’s be honest, I’m just cheap and don’t wanna spend a bunch of money on stuff when I might be able to do it myself. So, today I tackled our fireplaces and our outside lights. (the dust in the below picture is from a different project I’ll share on another day. . .maybe)

I wanted to get rid of the gold stripes on the fireplaces, so I bought Satin Black Rest-oleum paint High Heat. I sanded the metal, washed and dried it, then painted it. The paint is more like an oil, so it took a few strokes to make it look even and clean. But it was super simple and fast.

Then, I painted a few of our outdoor lights(I’ll finish the rest sometime this week). We loved the look of the lights but hated the color. We headed to Home Depot to get more lights, and the ones like it were $60 a piece! We have 8 outdoor lights, that would be over $400 to replace them all. Um, not gonna happen. So, I took the same black paint and made them look new.

I taped off the back of the light just so I could get all the cracks without painted the house. I didn’t tape off the glass and had a few streaks on them.

See the streaks on the bottom left corner?

Streaks are gone!

So, I used Goo Gone on a paper towel and wiped them right off. So much easier than taking the time to tape all the glass.

I think they turned out great. The paint was $15 and I fixed 3 fire places, and 8 lights. Saved us over $400! Now I just need to convince Josh to spend that saved money on a new non purple door…=)

Later that night Josh and I went to dinner and a movie. We talked all about our plans for our house. We love making it our own, but I just wanna do it all now. Must be patient!

We had Mexican which we both love and then got to preview Draft Day. I thought it was entertaining, Josh thought it was super cheesy, but we both had a good time.

Oh, J came home from church with a nice rosy nose. He face planted into the carpet and got a major rug burn, poor guy.

How has your week started off?

Who’s running today? Is it outside or on a treadmill?

About Sugar Plum Runner

Welcome to the Sugar Plum Runner! I grew up in WA state, but currently reside in UT with my husband Josh, son Jackson, and 2 daughters Lily and Claire. I love running, but I have never been so inspired to run, race, and blog about it since 4 years ago after I had Jackson. I grew up playing soccer and cheered in high school. My favorite part of both sports(and yes I consider cheer leading a sport) was the conditioning. I found myself running after practice was over on my own. That's when I realized that running may be the sport I really loved.

I know this might sound silly, but I came across your blog on Google by looking up “rug burn on nose.” My little one gotta HUGE rug burn on her nose at daycare about 3 weeks ago, and the area is still pink. Healed, but pink. Did your little have any scar? Or how long did it take to clear up?

    • Oh no I’m so sorry about your little one:( those are the worst! His stayed red for awhile, but I would put neosporin or Vaseline on it every morning till it closed and then over time it went away. I hope she feels better!
